I have a podcast which currently points to an XML feed on my old server, which we no longer update. So how do I force iTunes to point to my new podcast on my Gutensite?

You could technically create a new podcast with iTunes using the standard method we recommend. However, if you have subscribers on your old podcast that's not an ideal solution because they wouldn't have automatic access to your new podcast. So if you don't want to lose all your old subscribers you will need to follow Apple's Instructions and make sure that iTunes is notified of the new XML Feed URL. To do this you will need to be able to access the XML Feed on your old server and edit the XML.

1. Add a new node to the XML using the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag. The tag will cause the iTunes Store to be updated with the new feed URL, as well as all iTunes client versions that support podcasting, e.g.

<itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.domain.com/site/resources/multimedia/podcast/?podcast_id=12345</itunes:new-feed-url>

2. If you have can, you should set your old web server to return an HTTP 301 response and redirect when receiving a request for the old feed URL (redirect to the new Gutensite XML feed).

Be sure to maintain the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag and the 301 redirect for at least two weeks to ensure that most subscribers have attempted to download your most recent episode and have thereby received the new URL.

If you are not able to use both methods, you may want to include an audio note in your podcast, informing your subscribers that your podcast has changed locations.

That should do it. iTunes should update their feed and begin pointing to your new Gutensite XML Feed.
