When you publish updates, you might still see the old content—here’s why, and what you can do about it.
What Is Cache?
- Cache stores a “snapshot” of each page as plain HTML.
- Instead of regenerating pages on every request (which can be slow), the server serves this static version instantly.
Benefits of Caching
- Speed: Pages load in milliseconds, boosting user experience and SEO.
- Reliability: If your server encounters an error, the last good cached page can still be served.
Who Sees the Cached Version?
- Anonymous visitors always get the cached snapshot.
- Logged-in editors in Preview Mode see the latest unpublished content (uncached), which can be slower.
Why Your Visitors Aren’t Seeing Updates
- After you publish, the site checks for changes every 5 minutes and then refreshes the cache.
- Until that refresh happens, visitors will continue seeing the old cached page.
Clearing Cache Manually
- In the dashboard, click the ▼ next to Publish and choose Clear Cache.
- Wait ~30 seconds for the refresh to propagate.
- Reload the live page (or use an incognito window to simulate an anonymous visitor).
When to Clear Cache Yourself
- Urgent updates: You need the new version live immediately, not after the 5-minute interval.
- Indirect changes: You updated media, modules, or tags that appear on other pages—automatic dependency checks usually clear related pages, but edge cases may slip through.
Quick Test:
Open your site in an incognito/private-browsing window. If you still see old content, hit Clear Cache and refresh until the new version appears.
