First, note that Landing Streams support only curated content, while Collection Streams can use either method. Select the appropriate approach based on the frequency of content updates and the level of control required over item order.
Curated Streams
- Manual selection and ordering
You hand-pick each item and arrange them exactly as you wish. - Fast loading
Because the system retrieves a fixed list, pages render more quickly. - Best for static content
Ideal when your list rarely changes—press releases, featured case studies, or portfolio pieces.
Limitations
- You can include at most 25 items.
- Updates aren’t automatic—adding or removing items requires manual editing.
Exception: A curated Landing Stream can embed a tag-based collection module. That module then pulls in unlimited, constantly updating content while the rest of the Stream remains hand-picked.
Tag-Based Streams
- Dynamic content
Any item tagged appropriately will appear automatically in the Stream. - Set-and-forget
Once you assign a tag to a new article, product, or profile, it shows up without further configuration. - Ideal for large or frequently changing libraries
Blogs, product catalogs, real-estate listings, or any site with regular additions.
Limitations
- Slower load times, since the system must query your entire tagged content pool.
- Ordering is handled by predefined rules (alphabetical, date published, price, status, etc.) rather than manual arrangement.
Tip: If you need a very specific sequence—such as ranking team members by seniority—stick with a curated Stream.
Which Should You Use?
- Choose curated when you have a small, stable set of items where precise order matters.
- Choose tag-based when you have a large, evolving collection and want hands-off updates.
In many cases, Collection Streams can combine both approaches—use curated sections for highlights and tag-based sections for bulk listings—to get the best of both worlds.
